Who Are You?
I’m Sean Dotson, PE and I have been in the automation and robotics industry my entire career (25+ years). A mechanical engineer by education I have designed, programmed, sold, serviced and repaired countless custom automation, robotic and packaging systems. I founded and was President of RND Automation for over 18 years before selling it to a private equity form in late 2020. I stayed on as President and also served as CTO of their other 2 industrial companies before exiting the organization in October 2022.
So what now?
I have always enjoyed sharing my experiences and knowledge as well as writing. What better site than SubStack to combine these. With my experiences as an entrepreneur I have run engineering, sales, business development, finance, manufacturing, IT and just about every other aspect of a company you can imagine.
Through my advisory company AutomationAMA (Ask Me Anything) I provide advisory, consulting and fractional CXO services to help both manufacturers and equipment integrators to be more successful, avoid pitfalls and ultimately improve the bottom line.
What Can I Expect from Automation Navigator?
While my topics tend to be automation and engineering heavy I discuss a lot of ancillary things revolving around the manufacturing industry. In addition to topics like how to quote machinery, or how to choose an integrator, you can expect to see articles on the economy, building company culture and maybe even some predictions for the future of our industry,
I want to learn more
Sure.. have a look at my Linktree where I have links to my CV, bio and podcasts appearances. Or go straight to my YouTube channel to see a few of my Automation AMA videos. You can also find me on LinkedIn where I’m pretty active.
I’m on board. What’s next?
As the name of the company states “Ask Me Anything” I welcome questions and topics for new articles. Some will be older articles that I used to host on LinkedIn but many will be new and original content.
I thank you for stopping by and hope that you find my writing to be useful and entertaining. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of the latest content.
